Have you ever wondered, what is the power of a smile? Rather, your smile?

This is probably the most infectious act of humans. Rarely (or probably never) would you have experienced that your smile DOES NOT light up another’s face. Right?

Well, here I was standing at the traffic light, with about 80 secs to ‘GREEN’, studying the plight of many around me who were not in an air conditioned car at 39 degrees Celsius. My co-driver (my better half) sitting next to me.

My gaze travelled and stopped at a very welcoming sight. 3 kids sitting in the last bench of a Mini

bus, frantically trying to catch someone’s attention by waving at people randomly. I looked around and could spot no response from anyone. Everyone seemed transfixed with a heavy weight of their ongoing tensions of the day or life, waiting for the signal to catapult them towards the next traffic light.

My wife and I chose to wave back. The little girl seemed to have a sudden spurt of energy and excitedly waved back, making the other 2 kids join in. What ensued thereafter wer

e 60 secs of fruitful exchange between us, till the traffic moved us apart.

With just sign languages we had such a fantastic conversation. The children were overjoyed! I signalled to tell them that the ‘tikka’ on their forehead looked good and suited them. To which the boy thanked me with folded hands and a thumbs up which followed by a question “Where is yours?”

“How are you today?” He seemed to ask. My response immediately was a big smile and a thumbs up. And so went our ‘talk’.

A mere 60 secs changed my mind frame. Made me feel ‘happy’. Interestingly the entire day thereafter actually was a breeze and ‘easy to handle’.

Have you ever chanced upon a Surprise moment like this, which altered the course of your day?

Such wonderful nuggets of experience are all around us. But we are not consciously looking out for these. Why? Because we usually are overwhelmed by our ongoing battles and unanswered questions of day to day struggle.

Pause, and you shall find them. Rest, and you might actually find solutions sooner.

Do not underestimate the power of such tiny moments of joy in your lives. These actually refresh you for a long time and help you think and act better. Whether at work, or at home.

Wish you all many many such moments of true happiness and experience, everyday.

With just 2 secs to go and on my cue, all 3 of them made the ‘V’ sign for me. I clicked them and have them etched in my memory ever since :)
