COV

ID - These 5 letters instill in us the biggest of fears. Why? Because we know so little about it. All knowledge we have about Covid, is based on whatever the government and media channels are doling out. Every bulletin leaves us more worried and scared.
Who are those who are testing positive? Why are they getting affected? Who are those who are able to recover easily? What pattern of medication impacts which ethnicity positively? A sure known fact is that a person with stronger immunity is relatively safer than the others. But immunity is built over time and with discipline. What can people do TODAY? Is there something out there still waiting to be discovered? Or its just enough to up your Vitamin C intake? Or have hot water. Or just Wash your hands frequently and keep your nose and mouth covered?
Each country is leaving no stone unturned to fight this theat. India, where we are, has ensured that every possible resource is put to use for the same. And hats off to all those who are selflessly striving hard to save lives and keep us safe.
Now is the time to try out newer methods and discover unexplored trends. I shall share my thoughts here. Do forward them to the concerned authorities and your contacts if you see merit in them.
It would be advantageous to study and figure out:
Out of those who have recovered, who all have had a history of practicing yoga or breathing exercises? If there were yoga enthusiasts in the list, then did they tide over the problem far more easily? Was there any difference in their breathing patterns? What if we found out that actually no regular yoga enthusiast was amongst those affected, wouldn't that be a revelation? Being affected here means being symptomatic.
We test ONLY those who show symptoms. The study could throw up interesting patterns
We know that Pranayama's are very good to increase our immunity. We not only use our lungs in greater capacity but also flush out toxins through breathing out consciously. Could there be a link her to explore? Our lungs do become stronger. Is that a foolproof safeguard against the virus?
What was their diet patterns in the last few years/months prior to becoming Covid positive? What sort of foods impact us in what way?
Patterns of eating healthy versus eating right.
Is there a pattern emerging between Vegans and others? Does that throw up some thoughts to explore further?
State of mind - Of all those who tested positive, what role did the mere fact of being and staying 'happy' play? Did depression result in falling prey to the virus far more easily? The obvious answer will be yes but if there is scientific way of understanding this and communicating it, we can really improve our happiness index, worldwide. Bhutan is known to be the happiest country in Asia. They have all of 27 cases and no mortaity at all. Yes, the population is sparse compared to ours. But is there a lesson there?
Our society has the best of Yoga Gurus, Chefs, Nutritionists, Researchers and Analysts, Marketeers. Time to join hands and look within?
Its time to find alternate methods to fight this threat. One chain of thought is that everyone is going to fall prey to it sometime in the future. So let us ready ourselves for that eventuality. Even if we do get affected, let it not leave a dent in our lives and families.
If a thorough study of each individual and their family's lifestyle is done maybe it will give us all direction and confidence of how to stay safe. What changes to implement. How to better our lives and grow our happiness.
Like the Arogya Setu app, which helps in contact tracing, maybe we can have an app which can track patterns and trends as opined above.
As of today, we have 83,004 active cases and 64,450 discharged or recovered cases in India. A great number to start with, to understand their life pattern. Studying the recovered individuals and their families could be th way forward. There would be many more trends that can emerge. Let us build on it and share. You never know where might the best possible cure lie.
The onus lies not only on the Government but with all of us. Maybe some Corporate will devote their CSR team for this? Or we might have Eminent personalities and preachers with huge followings spearhed this. Or a research agency make up the module. Or merely a university take it up as a project. Think! What all can't we do if-we -want-to?
Society cannot be locked down forever. We will open up. We will start over again. For many, staying at home might not be an option. But staying healthy and safe is.
Let us refrain from using the term 'Social Distancing'. What is actually required is 'Physical distancing' and 'Social Consciousness'.
Its never too late to course correct our lives. The sooner, the better.
Stay heathy. Live longer. Become happier. Enjoy better.
