Confidence. It is something we all possess. The question is, in what form? Do we have the required confidence for a said action or the lack of it? Confidence is a critical factor that can significantly impact an individual's growth prospects. It can influence the decisions we make, the risks we take, and the way we approach challenges and opportunities. When we have the confidence in our abilities, we are more likely to take risks, explore new ideas, and pursue our goals with vigour. In contrast, low confidence can lead to self-doubt, hesitation, and a reluctance to take on new challenges. But let us not mix Confidence with Arrogance. Confidence is not arrogance. Arrogance is telling people you're better than they are. Confidence is telling yourself you're better than what you used to be.

Your level of confidence will directly determine how you will approach challenges. A person with high confidence tends to approach challenges with a growth mindset, looking for ways to learn and improve his/her skills. Obstacles will look like opportunities for growth and they would embrace the challenge of overcoming these. On the other hand, individuals with low confidence often have a fixed mindset, believing that their abilities are predetermined and unchangeable. This can lead them to avoid challenges and miss out on opportunities for growth.

For instance, imagine a student who has low confidence in their ability to master a difficult subject. He may be more likely to give up or avoid studying, believing that he simply doesn't have what it takes to succeed. In contrast, a student with high confidence may approach the same subject with a growth mindset, seeking out additional resources and asking for help when needed. A wonderful quote sums it up as- "Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers, you cannot be successful or happy."

Confidence can also affect an individual's willingness to take risks. People who are confident in their abilities are more likely to take calculated risks in pursuit of their goals. They are willing to step outside of their comfort zone, try new things, and take on challenges that might be intimidating to others. This can lead to new opportunities for growth and development. In contrast, individuals with low confidence may be more risk-averse, preferring to stay within their comfort zone and avoiding potential failure or disappointment. So, what are you? Or rather, let us ask ourselves, “What do we want to be”.

Confidence needs to be fed and grown. Look at the environment around us. We have a lot more entrepreneurs today as founders in startups than ever before. Each one starts their journey with great boost and confidence. The challenge keep unfolding and evolving as they grow. How are they coping up with that? What are they doing to keep growing their confidence as they journey on in their entrepreneurial journey? THAT, is critical.

Confidence also impacts an individual's ability to lead and inspire others. A confident leader can motivate and encourage their team, leading to increased productivity and growth. On the other hand, a leader with low confidence may struggle to inspire others, which can limit the growth potential of their team. That in turn will lead to people moving on and the Organisation losing stickiness with its employees and investing heavily in sourcing, inducting and training talent.

"Confidence comes from being prepared." A confident leader who has prepared themselves for the challenges ahead is more likely to inspire confidence in their team, leading to greater growth and success.

It is important that we map our confidence from time to time and see where we stand. The right amount of confidence coupled with the right attitude opens doors to every solution.

Learn to grow your confidence. Learn to succeed and inspire others. Learn to shine on!
